What is different here
Why home services and trades does not run like everything else
In home services the job is usually won on the phone, not in the ad auction. Demand is unplanned and often urgent, so the buyer calls three companies in the order the results appear and books whoever answers and can come out soonest. That makes speed of response worth more than bid position, and it is why an account here can be beaten by a competitor spending half as much with a receptionist who picks up. Two other things follow. Radius matters more than keywords, because a crew that will not drive to a postcode should not be bidding on it, and the arithmetic of drive time beats the arithmetic of search volume. And demand is seasonal in a way most verticals are not: roofing spikes after storms, pest control in spring, insulation in the first cold week, so a flat monthly budget quietly overspends in the trough and runs out in the peak.

Questions
Home services and trades: frequently asked questions
What does a lead cost in home services?
It varies more by trade than by market. Our documented work in this group ranges from $12 per lead for a remodelling contractor to $61 for an exterior cleaning company whose cost per lead started at $172 and came down over sixteen months. Anyone quoting you a flat figure before looking at your account is guessing. The first thing we do is establish what yours costs today.
We already get calls. Why would we advertise?
Often you should not, at least not first. If calls are already coming in and the problem is that nobody answers them, or that quotes are not followed up, more leads make the waste bigger rather than the revenue. In several of the engagements below the cost per lead fell without the budget changing, because the account stopped paying for searches the business could not service.
Do you handle seasonality?
Yes, and it is one of the few places we will argue for spending less. Budgets are set against the season rather than flat across the year, so the account is not burning through a monthly cap in the first week of a storm response and idling in February.
Is your home services work in Dallas–Fort Worth?
Some of it. Our pest control engagement is in Parker County, Texas, which is in the metroplex, and our paintless dent repair work is in Dallas and Fort Worth. The rest is elsewhere: Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, Florida, California and northern New England. Each study says where it was, taken from its own source document.
